How To Maintain Custom Wood Furniture

Blog

If you have spent the money having a professional woodworker or carpenter create custom piece of furniture for your home, then there is a good chance that you are going to want it to last as long as possible before you replace it. You don't want to take the time or the expense to make another set of furniture when you could have just paid more care to the set that you currently have. Here are some tips for maintaining custom wood furniture.

1. For Furniture With an Oil Finish:

If your furniture has an oil finish, meaning that it has a soft finish, then you will need to clean it by using a similar oil mixture. You can do this by making a mixture of one part gum turpentine, one part boiled linseed oil, and 1/16 of a part of distilled vinegar. Dip a clean rag into the cleaning solution after mixing it thoroughly and apply the mixture to the wood. Never apply the mixture to the wood directly or else you could overwhelm the wood and damage the finish. Allow the solution to sit for a minute to loosen the any dirt that might be on the furniture. Then, take a second clean rag and wipe off all of the extra oil. If you leave the excess oil on, it will become tacky and sticky and attract even more dust, which would negate the entire cleaning process. Make sure that, when you are removing the oil, that you are rubbing in the same direction of the grain.

2. For Furniture With a Lacquer Finish:

If your wood furniture has a lacquer finish, then it has a hard finish and does not need to be treated as delicately. Take a clean, microfiber rag and spray it with a spray bottle so that it is slightly damp, but not soaking wet. Wipe down the furniture in gentle strokes that follow the grain of the wood. Lacquer is stronger than an oil finish but it can still be dented. If water is not recommended by the manufacturer of the custom wooden furniture, then use a solvent-based furniture cleaning solution. Make sure that you test it on a spot of the chair that you can't see easily to make sure that it doesn't cause the chair to be stained.

Understanding Agricultural Concerns

When a friend of mine came over to my house to tell me about a parasite that was present in some people's yards, I wasn't that concerned. I figured that since I didn't grow a garden, I didn't have much to worry about. Instead of stressing about it, I focused mainly on taking care of my house and yard. However, a few months later, I realized that my lawn was suffering and my bushes were struggling to live. I realized that the pests were invading my yard, so I started taking agricultural concerns seriously. This blog is all about understanding agricultural concerns and knowing how to fend off problems.
